A Dallas-Fort Worth, Tex., woman celebrating her 104th birthday received a special gift from the company of the soda she’s been swilling since her 60s: Dr. Pepper.
“Well, at 103 I didn’t think I’d make it, but I’m still perking along,” the centenarian, Elizabeth Sullivan, told CBS Dallas-Fort Worth.
Sullivan— who opts for Dr. Pepper as her early-morning drink instead of coffee— enjoyed a cake shaped like the pop as well as a gift basket from Larry Young, CEO of Dr. Pepper Snapple Group, on her big day.
“When you live to be 103 and still can talk to nice people, you deserve some Dr. Pepper, but I never expected this,” Sullivan told the news station.
Sullivan reportedly took a liking to the soda’s “23 flavors” nearly 40 years ago and now enjoys three a day.
“Every doctor that sees me says they’ll kill you, but they die and I don’t. So there must be a mistake somewhere,” she said.
Sullivan, who taught math at a local high school for 15 years and tutored football players for free, said she doesn’t have a secret for her longevity except “you just keep living.”
